Leaving Aguas Calientes we've spent an other afternoon and night in Cuzco, which - apart from the great bar we've found with live music in the bohemian district - was uneventful. So we hit the road early in the morning and headed south towards Lake Titicaca, or to be more exact, the city of Puno.
The road was going through highlands surrounded by mountains like this
First stop Andahuaylillas, a lovely little village with the so-called Sistine Chapel of the Americas
Town of Raqchi
Inka ruins near Raqchi
Hand-made stuff..
La Raya pass at the altitude of 4335m. Everything is upside down, still.
Some decent 6000m mountains in the background
Puno, the town by Lake Titicaca, is not the prettiest in the world
It really isn't.
Okay, it's a bit nicer in sunshine.
Egg and sugar shop
The next day we left Puno and visited the Sillustani ruins but at the entrance we came across the current pop idol of South America recording a new music video. Gorgeous!
Can you spot the puma and the snake?!
This is supposed to be a house in the style of the Potemkin villages but apparently the owners have been living there for a couple of years...
Instead of chicken, they had these cute little things..
..working hard using a wooden 'spade' or 'plow'
The highlands of Puno
The local sports centre and stadium
Later this afternoon we headed to the floating islands of Lake Titicaca, made of reeds, where we were about to spend a night. Sounds weird, doesn't it? See the upcoming post!
Amazing pictures! Keep it coming!!!!
